Parkour is a type of physical education and lifestyle that aims to overcome obstacles by moving, running, jumping, and climbing from one point to another in an urban environment.
Parkour / Free running is the primarily non-competitive physical discipline of training to freely traverse obstacles in a man-made or natural environment using running, vaulting, jumping, climbing, rolling, and other movements in order to travel from one point to another in the quickest and most efficient way possible. Without the use of equipment, it focuses on developing the fundamental attributes required for such movement, which include functional strength and fitness, balance, spatial awareness, agility, coordination, precision, control, and creative vision.
It is a sport that encourages a method of training one’s body and mind to be as completely functional, effective, and as liberated as possible in any environment.
The sport aims to build confidence, determination, self-discipline, and self-reliance. Teaching responsibility for one’s actions, encourages humility, self-improvement on all levels and respect for others. It helps reveal one’s physical and mental limits while simultaneously offering ways to overcome them. It’s a great medium for self-expression and discovery while helping to build community spirit.
